Laurel is a member of the Nez Perce (Nimiipuu) through a natural adoption of the heart of Mr. James Martin, Great, Great Grandson of Chief Joseph, in 1987. This day will remain a part of my heart and soul all of my life and I feel honored to be a part of a great people. I love you Grandfather, thank you for adopting me, taking me into your life and heart.

Laurel has written several storys about Nimiipuu (The People) legends as told by her Grandfather James Martin. Each legend and story is meant to be taken to heart and is shared with the children and all the people gathered together after dancing to firelight and celebrating life and nature. Legends were told to educate and instruct the people about life and nature so that they could live well with nature and walk in balance with it. The legends Laurel writes about are about animals in nature and people. Grandfather taught Laurel several of the Nimiipuu legends and she has written about them in the following selections.

Epilogue~Alba and Alban Two Unusual Albatross Discovering the World Together

Laurel just finished writing an amazing story about the Wandering Albatross. It
is a fictional story with gads of true data within it. Laurel has more to say
about this book and why it came to be.

What's Doing About the Albatross?
Dedicated to a lone Albatross who was caught in a maritime training mission
decades ago. Yet his/her memory has not been forgotten and the person
responsible for the death of the albatross was fined and restricted
as tolerance for such actions are forbidden on the high seas by the
knowledgeable

Albatross have been known worldwide for their beauty and fortune. As it is
fortunate to see an albatross because of their beauty and extraordinary luck
which seems to accompany them wherever they go. Laurel will be bringing this
story as it unwinds right off her press on Blogger. Be sure to not miss a beat
of this thrilling adventure about a glorious albatross pair, who will travel the
seas around the globe, as they live out their lives on the sea. This story will
be for all ages and will have true information about the albatross and their
ways when they are living in their natural habitat.

Laurel was embarking on an adventure of which proportion she had no idea. The
seas around the globe are in danger and peril from pollutants and natural global
warming. But in writing about the Wandering Albatross, Laurel opened a whole
new series of questions about what the world letting happen right beneath their
nose and in front of their very eyes as practices of fishing continue that harm
wildlife.

The Albatross, Dolphins, and Whale, They are My Friends of the Sea

Chief Joseph's great, great grandson James Marten did not adopt Laurel Marie
Sobol into his life and heart on one lovely warm summer day near Rogue River,
Oregon, by a fluke. He did it because it was intended to be that way as a part
of life. Laurel accepted the heart and spirit adoption with all of her heart
and soul, and it has given her heart and soul wings to fly above the worst
storms that she never thought to have existed full circle. The strength Laurel
would need in her life to do the works of the Lord, would be so big, and so
much, that she would need the loving strength of her new grandfather James
Marten. Though he left the earth in body in 1995, his great loving spirit is
strong in Laurel's heart and his wisdom carries on, just as our wise great,
great, great Chief Joseph's peaceful wisdom shines on even to this day within
Laurel's heart.
The animals of the land and sea can't speak, the mountains and rivers and trees
can't speak, and the very world we live in can't speak to say, "Help us, don't
ruin us!" Yet it is up to nature to heal itself as much as possible within it's
means, and for humans to do their part in sustaining the earth's natural beauty
and resources, keeping the earth living and beautiful while renewing the trees
and keeping the water clean. Laurel has a great love of the world and nature
and knows why James Marten adopted her into his heart and spirit as one of his
own grandchildren. Laurel is American of Irish, Italian, and Latina decent and
she is also extremely honored and proud to be called a Nimiipuu (The People),
the original name the Nez Perce called themselves before the Lewis and Clark
Expedition crew named them Nez Perce. Thank you James Marten for recognizing a
fellow spirit and heart like yours, so much so, that you took me and my mother
into your very life and made us part of yours in your world. No, it was not a
giant leap into a different world. It was a perfect fit into a perfect place
where you knew we would fit in just right…You are a gifted, wise, great man just
like Chief Joseph.
You also knew that one day, the precious stories of the Nimipuu, which were
feared to be lost, and which you knew must not be, would be returning to the
Nimipuu and the world. Perhaps you knew more than Laurel grandfather that it
would be her to be one of the very people to do this. Yes grandfather, you are
very wise indeed!
